As a step mother of a 10-year-old daughter, I am constantly looking for ways to get her excited about the gospel in her everyday life. So I decided to make her Saturday chore list by providing scriptures as clues for which chores she was supposed to accomplish.

Her reaction: "Does it say, 'Thou shalt clean the toilet' anywhere in the scriptures?" Haha.

Here are a few examples:

1) Pray...D&C 10:5

Pray always, that you may come off conqueror; yea, that you may conquer Satan, and that you may escape the hands of the servants of Satan that do uphold his work.

2) Read the scriptures...John 5:39

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

3) Make breakfast...Alma 17:7

Nevertheless they departed out of the land of Zarahemla, and took their swords, and their spears, and their bows, and their arrows, and their slings; and this they did that they might provide food for themselves while in the wilderness.

4) Read a good book...D&C 88:118

And as all have not faith, seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith.

5) Wash the dishes...Matthew 23:26

Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

6) Change your clothes...Genesis 35:2

Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments.

7) Vacuum/Sweep...Luke 15:8

Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?
